CHICAGO — One of the greatest players in the history of the White Sox now received another posthumous honor on Thursday in a neighborhood where he made memories for a generation of baseball fans. Minnie Minoso, a Baseball Hall of Famer who played a majority of his career in Chicago, is having an elementary school named in his honor in Bridgeport on Thursday. The former McClelland Elementary School, located at 3527 S. Wallace Street, will be named the "Minnie Minoso Academy," with the official dedication taking place on Thursday afternoon. This honor comes to the late White Sox legend, who died in 2015, after a two-year process at the school in which the students led the effort to find a new namesake. The community, students, and staff narrowed the list to a group of three finalists, who each had a presentation on their behalf. In the final vote, Minoso was the clear winner, and the name change was approved earlier in the summer of 2023. It seems inevitable that we may soon witness a similar class-action lawsuit affecting the rest of Canada. The lawsuit in Quebec alleges that these industry giants colluded to unlawfully manipulate the price of meat, resulting in households allegedly paying more than $4 billion in unjustified excess. At the centre of the case lies a critical piece of evidence – an email dating back to March 2007, wherein the former president of Maple Leaf Foods, Michael McCain, outlines a concerning discussion with Paul Del Duca, a former Senior Vice President at Metro in Ontario. There is some truth in the perspective that this is just another class-action lawsuit perfect for an ambulance-chasing law firm seeking work. In a cover letter for the road closure application, the applicant said that they are the landowners on either side of the road allowance, which is an extension of Township Road 10-0. They do not see a need to develop a road on the road allowance, and closing that portion would allow them to repurpose the land into productive farmland and make accessing their land on the north side of the road allowance easier.First reading of the bylaw was performed during council’s regular July 6 meeting. A public hearing for a road closure bylaw was held during Lethbridge County council’s regular Aug. 3 meeting.“It has been determined that this road is no longer required as part of the County road network and the road closure does not impact any other landowners,” s...County council receives 2Q P&D report
